Why the Fuel House?
The name of Fuel House Café links into the story of Alloa, past, present and future.
Situated in a former Coal Board office, The Fuel House Café is also a reminder of the historic Waggonway, opened in 1768, which launched Clackmannanshire industry to the world.
The Waggonway ran from Alloa Harbour and north through Sauchie to Devon Colliery at Fishcross and east to Sherriffyards Colliery, at Gartmorn Dam.
Boasting the earliest railway tunnel in Scotland, parts of The Waggonway are still used by locals today as a pathway, and a couple of branches even run directly past the Alloa Business Centre.
Just as The Waggonway and coal mines fuelled Clackmannanshire’s wool mills, weavers, glass works, breweries, distilleries, cooperage and tannery in days past, The Fuel House Café now powers modern local industries with good food and good coffee.
The Fuel House Café in Alloa Business Centre can be reached via the main reception or through the custom accessible entrance from the car park. There are dedicated blue badge car parking spaces to the front and ample parking in the main business centre car park.
