Kitty the Vintage Caravan set to be the star of vintage fair

A vintage fair is set to unveil Clackmannanshire’s newest celebrity whose looks have amassed thousands of followers on Instagram.

Owned by Nuala Hewer, from Alloa, Kitty the Vintage Caravan has been embraced by vintage lovers the world over and will be the main attraction at the fair held at Loch Leven’s Larder on July 17th.

After seeing people’s reactions to the caravan whilst on family holidays, Nuala struck upon the idea to hire out the 50-year-old Van Master and approached Business Gateway Clackmannanshire for advice.

Now, the mother-of-three, and part-time English assessor, will officially launch Kitty at the summer fair which she has organised.

She said: “I’ve always been interested in vintage and bought a book about cool caravans which then inspired me to bid for the caravan on eBay. I totally refurbished it, painting it sympathetically and using vintage materials, before naming her Kitty.

“We’ve enjoyed some great family holidays in her, and wherever we go people always want to find out more about her. I then posted photos on Instagram and she was an instant hit. She now has almost 5000 followers. That’s when I realised there was a potential market to hire her out for events such as weddings, birthdays, small hen parties and photoshoots.

“I’d originally gone to one of Business Gateway’s start-up seminars and spoken to an adviser about a business plan when I first had the seed of the idea. I then went back for help with website development and social media which was very useful and gave me knowledge I didn’t have.

“Kitty’s first booking was at a wedding in May where she was used as a backdrop for photos and it was a huge success. Now, the fair, which will have stalls selling quality vintage and handmade items, will give me a platform to showcase her to a local audience.”

Stuart McCusker, Business Gateway, said: “Nuala spotted a gap in the market to not only hire Kitty out but also to organise a vintage fair; something her sister does successfully in England. Being a very visual business, using social media and having an eye-catching website is a must, and we’re glad our expertise has helped Nuala shine a spotlight on Kitty.”
